Anybody experienced this and have any ideas how to overcome it, or why it has suddenly started to happen? It's really hampering our work as the online version of Excel doesn't contain all the functionality needed. I've checked the Excel spreadsheets themselves, there are no irregular permissions to them, and this is happening to people who are even authors of the spreadsheet. Other users are still using 2010 and are having this issue, even when they have been given contribute access to the document in the library. We use SharePoint online, I've recently upgrading to Office 2016 and have noticed this happening (and I have Admin priviliges so I don't think it is a SharePoint permissions thing on the library side). Soetimes it will allow the person using it to switch to 'edit mode' and let the changes be made, other times it is insisting the user save a copy which is really frustrating.
